• Shrove Tuesday falls 47 days before Easter Sunday and is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent.
• 'Shrove' comes from the word 'shrive' which means 'to confess'.
• Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration as people indulge themselves on foods that traditionally weren't allowed during Lent. Pancakes are a good way of using up milk, eggs and flour.
• Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and last six and half weeks up until Easter Day.
